OKO Finance said to win Mali-stage of Seedstars World Challenge

OKO Finance, a crop insurance solution for smallholder farms, has reportedly won the Malian stage of the global Seedstars World challenge.

The InsurTech has joined the final, which will feature companies from around the world, where it will have a chance to win up to $1m in equity investment, according to a report from Disrupt Africa.

Seedstars’ global competition has held country-based stages in over 77 countries, with the finalists in each of these being invited to the final in Switzerland next year.

OKO, a TechStars company, provides crop insurance to smallholder farms. It leverages satellite imagery and weather forecasting to simplify and automize claim management, to make insurance cheaper for individuals.

OKO Finance was competing against seven other technology startups including legal aid platform Droit Direct SARL, rideshare service Woyo and agri-food distribution chain support platform Sanzara.

There are still winners from eight countries still yet to be announced.
