AXA Partners and Trip.com bolster travel insurance alliance

Trip.com and AXA Partners have strengthened their partnership in Europe with the launch of cancellation and medical insurance solutions in Germany, France, and the UK.

The collaboration, which began seven years ago in China focussed on creating insurance products adapted to the market, was deployed in South Kore in 2018, Singapore in 2020, and the UK in 2021.

Now, Trip.com and AXA Partners will provide new travel insurance products for German and French travellers. The two new insurance solutions provide a range of benefits including medical, cancellation and baggage cover, which can be selected when booking a flight on Trip.com.

Trip.com said the cancellation-only ‘Basic’ insurance solution has proven especially popular in mainland Europe as travellers seek reassurance when booking their next trip, and includes coverage if the trips are cancelled due to Covid. Whilst the ‘Travel Plus’ medical insurance policy, that was made available to UK customers in September 2021, crucially protects customers for cancellation and medical costs if they contract COVID-19.

Xavier Blanchard, AXA Partners travel insurance CEO and global head of Travel at AXA Partners, said, “We are delighted to be working with Trip.com. Trip.com Group is one of the world’s largest online travel agencies, and so our partner understands the need for products to be distributed compliantly and with the customer’s best interests at heart. We, at AXA Partners, understand the need for this to be achieved in a simple, engaging and understandable way.

“Our combined global expertise and collaborative approach creates a perfect environment for the creation of products and services that protect and support customers at every stage of their journey.”

Following the launch in the UK, France and Germany, AXA Partners and Trip.com said they will continue to expand their partnership to new markets, including Italy and Spain in 2022.
