InsurTech Blink Parametric, has expanded its real-time flight disruption service through an agreement with Saskatchewan Blue Cross (Saskatoon) to enhance travel insurance coverage for traveling Canadians.

The agreement is part of a wider initiative to enhance travel insurance coverage in Canada, according to a report from Insurance Innovation Reporter.

Saskatchewan Blue Cross supports more than 130,000 members with health and wellness benefits, travel insurance and life insurance solutions.

The partnership will see Saskatchewan Blue Cross offer policyholders a service whereby individuals can register for flight delay coverage up to one hour ahead of their departure time. Once registered, they’ll have access to an airport lounge and/or hotel access, and cash, depending on the length of the delay.

Founded in 2016, Blink is a Parametric as a Service (PAAS) InsurTech, focused on a flight disruption travel insurance solution. It launched Blink Parametric in 2020, offering a full suite of parametric insurance solutions.

Blink Parametric offers customers what it calls a proactive real-time insurance service that meets the speed and convenience that customers greatly value by swiftly notifying travellers if a flight is delayed.

Real-time event notification allows for a range of real-time assistance options to be delivered straight to the traveller.

Carl Carter, chief commercial officer at Blink Parametric, said, “We are proud to extend our growing relationship with Blue Cross to now include Saskatchewan Blue Cross. We know we’re doing something right when a top-tier partner that is as consumer-centric as Blue Cross extends Blink’s real-time flight disruption solutions across Canada. It helps to have an amazing product, but we are also very fortunate that our relationship is reinforced by trust and shared values that prioritise the customer experience.”

Earlier this year, Blink expanded its longstanding partnership with the benefits provider and wellness leader Blue Cross, to bolster their travel offering in Canada.
