MSCI and Swiss Re Reinsurance Solutions, a leader in the reinsurance sector, have announced a groundbreaking partnership.
According to ESG Today, MSCI is best known for its advanced analytical tools that help investors identify opportunities and risks within portfolios. Swiss Re, on the other hand, excels in offering reinsurance and insurance solutions designed to make societies more resilient, particularly in the face of natural disasters and climate change.
The core aim of this partnership is to empower financial institutions to effectively assess, manage, and mitigate physical climate risks. This collaboration is set to revolutionize how financial entities handle the looming threats posed by climate change to assets and investments.
MSCI brings to the table its GeoSpatial Asset Intelligence, an AI-powered tool that collects data and maps out physical risks associated with various assets, companies, and portfolios. Swiss Re contributes with its CatNet tool, a location intelligence resource that provides assessments of natural hazard exposure through maps and satellite imagery. This tool integrates climate change data and the potential impacts of catastrophic events to offer comprehensive risk assessments.
This initiative will equip financial institutions with detailed, asset-level insights into physical climate risks. This enhanced understanding will enable them to devise strategies aimed at assessing and mitigating risks for individual assets and across portfolios and loan books.
Additional details about the partnership reveal a commitment to enhancing the financial sector’s ability to foresee and combat climate-related risks. Both companies emphasize the importance of integrating precise location-based intelligence and comprehensive natural catastrophe data to bolster investment strategies and risk management processes.
Richard Mattison, Global Head of ESG and Climate at MSCI, highlighted the benefits of the collaboration, stating, “Our innovative collaboration with Swiss Re is a significant leap forward in advancing physical risk insights for financial institutions. By delivering precise, location-based intelligence, we empower clients to navigate the evolving risk landscape with confidence and build more resilient investment strategies.”
Ali Shahkarami, Global Head of P&C Solutions at Swiss Re, also commented on the partnership, saying, “We are committed to providing accurate data and best in class physical risk insights to the market. This cooperation will benefit financial institutions globally, aligning with our vision of making the world more resilient.”
