Berlin-based InsurTech Feather, known for simplifying insurance for expatriates, has launched its new Business Insurance offering to modernise how international businesses manage employee benefits and protection.
The product is a seamless platform that removes the bureaucracy of legacy insurance systems, in a bid to address the complexity and fragmentation of commercial insurance in Europe, according to FF News.
Businesses with international teams often struggle with outdated processes and a lack of tailored solutions, particularly in areas like pension insurance, where high fees and rigid structures limit accessibility for expat staff.
Previously focused on B2C solutions for individuals navigating European insurance systems, Feather’s move into the B2B space reflects its intent to support globally distributed workforces. The company has already built a reputation for helping expats in Germany, France, and Spain access critical coverage such as health, life and pension insurance.
Feather Business Insurance offers a comprehensive suite of employee benefits, including health, life, and pension insurance. Health insurance is essential for expatriate employees, and life cover requirements vary by jurisdiction. Pension insurance, often overlooked in legacy systems, has become a central pillar of Feather’s offering due to its value in building long-term savings for expats.
Beyond employee coverage, the product also includes professional liability, general liability and cyber insurance. These additional protections are particularly timely, given the EU’s updated NIS-2 directive, which imposes stricter cyber risk controls on businesses. Feather’s platform responds to these evolving requirements with tailored, multi-country insurance that supports both compliance and resilience.
The launch aligns with Feather’s broader European expansion. The company recently appointed Eloi Lanthiez and Jaime Sans Alvarez to oversee operations in France and Spain, respectively. These hires support the company’s regional growth following a $6m funding round announced in 2024.
Feather CEO and co-founder Rob Schumacher said, “Businesses in Europe, especially small and mid-sized ones, often struggle to offer substantial insurance benefits. Their traditional insurance partners aren’t built to support them, especially in pension insurance, where too often international employees miss out on thousands of euros, locked into high-fee products. On the other hand, the commercial insurance experience for most professionals starts and ends with an annual letter. We’re retaliating against this experience.”
Schumacher added, “Feather is a no-brainer for companies where expats make up at least 10% of the workforce. For HR teams, we’re alleviating headaches with a solution that overcomes historical barriers associated with multi-lingual paperwork and understanding complex, local insurance obligations. With a platform that transcends borders and languages – and offers insurance products tailored to the transient nature of expats – HR leaders can turn international onboarding into a warm welcome instead of a bureaucratic nightmare.”
Feather head of B2B Nicolai Schieffer said, “Feather’s business launch is about solving relocation pain points upstream – at the employer level, where most insurance decisions are initiated. Having earned the trust of thousands of expats navigating the German, French, and Spanish insurance systems, this is a strategic evolution from our B2C roots.”
