New wind guarantee launched by Sensible Weather

Sensible Weather has launched its first High Winds Weather Guarantee, adding a new layer of protection for travellers and outdoor enthusiasts ahead of the busy Labor Day period and the 2025-26 ski season.

The new product aims to give customers peace of mind as extreme weather becomes more common, ensuring activities disrupted by high winds will be automatically reimbursed.

The High Winds Weather Guarantee offers instant payouts without the need for claims or paperwork. Using trusted windspeed data, the system measures the strongest average wind speed over one hour during a customer’s covered dates. If this crosses a pre-set threshold, the payout is automatically triggered. This service joins Sensible Weather’s existing suite of guarantees covering rain, snow, sleet, and heat.

Sensible Weather CEO Nick Cavanaugh said, “With wind now added to our suite of products, we’re eliminating another major stressor for travelers and businesses.

“By delivering scalable, adaptable solutions, we’re not just responding to change, we’re shaping a more resilient and sustainable future for travel and recreation in a rapidly evolving climate.”

The product is already being piloted by golf resorts and ski destinations where high winds often close courses and lifts, causing disappointment for visitors and revenue losses for operators. Sensible Weather believes this addition will help businesses protect bookings, improve customer experience, and unlock extra revenue by removing weather-related uncertainty.

Sensible Weather first introduced its Weather Guarantee in 2019, expanding in 2024 to include heat cover as temperatures hit record highs across the U.S. The company has since sold over one million Weather Guarantees through more than 8,000 partners.

Founded in 2019, Sensible Weather works with leading travel and hospitality partners to offer Weather Guarantees that reimburse customers when weather disrupts their plans. The company is backed by the National Science Foundation, Infinity Ventures, Amex Ventures, and the PGA of America.
