ZestyAI, a leader in AI-powered property risk analytics, has launched a new enhancement to its Severe Convective Storm (SCS) risk suite, enabling insurers to instantly update risk scores based on mitigation efforts.

The enhancement responds to the growing need for insurers to accurately reflect real-world improvements in properties, such as roof upgrades, replacement of aging roofs, and structural enhancements.

By incorporating these changes, carriers can adjust risk scores in real time, supporting better underwriting, rating accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

Based in the United States, ZestyAI uses artificial intelligence and real-world claims data to deliver property-level risk insights. Its platform leverages features including roof geometry, condition, and surrounding vegetation to offer more precise assessments than traditional territory-based models.

The mitigation-aware functionality allows insurers to:

  • Reflect completed mitigation: Recognise risk-reducing actions in real time, improving both rating accuracy and policyholder trust.

  • Correct inaccurate data: Transparently update property attributes, such as roof materials, to ensure fairer risk evaluations.

  • Simulate future changes: Model the impact of proposed improvements, helping agents and homeowners understand the value of mitigation before implementation.

“Models should be powerful, but also flexible and responsive to real-world improvements,” ZestyAI co-founder and chief product officer Kumar Dhuvur said. “By giving carriers the ability to incorporate mitigation and field data into model outputs, we’re supporting transparent, action-oriented risk management that benefits both insurers and homeowners.”

This capability is already in use across ZestyAI’s wildfire products, including Z-FIRE™ and Compliance Pre-Fill, where it supports regulatory filings and allows carriers to reflect mitigation measures like defensible space and Class A roofs. Extending the same functionality to the SCS suite ensures a consistent approach across multiple perils, controlled entirely by carriers.

The score adjustment feature integrates seamlessly into the ZestyAI platform and supports a range of use cases, including optimising inspection workflows, enhancing underwriting decisions, improving product fit, and ensuring rating accuracy. The company’s storm models—including Z-HAIL™, Z-WIND™, and Z-STORM™—are approved for use in over 20 states across the Great Plains, Midwest, and U.S. South, regions most affected by severe convective storms.
