Aviva launches ChatGPT app for home insurance quotes

Aviva, a UK insurer, is launching a ChatGPT app that allows potential customers to obtain an initial home insurance quote in a few minutes.

The app is the first collaboration between Aviva and OpenAI following the insurer’s recently announced partnership with the artificial intelligence company. It will allow users of large language models (LLMs) to request an initial quote directly within ChatGPT.

Customers will be able to connect to the Aviva app through the ChatGPT App Store and answer a small number of questions including name, address, contact details and the type of policy required. The system will then generate a quote for Aviva’s Signature Home Insurance product.

If users choose to proceed, they will be directed to Aviva’s website where they can finalise their policy, select additional cover options, review documentation and complete the purchase.

The insurer said the new channel complements its existing distribution model, which includes direct sales, price comparison sites, brokers and partnership distribution.

Owen Morris, CEO, Aviva UK Personal Lines, said, “Customers choose to buy their insurance in many different ways, and this app will be a brilliant new addition to Aviva’s existing distribution channels, allowing more customers to access our products when and how they want.

“The app is simple to use, allowing customers to get a home insurance quote with just a few questions. We already compete strongly across all distribution channels, including direct, price comparison websites, brokers and partnerships, and this will now enable customers using LLMs to purchase from us.

“Although use of LLMs in financial services is relatively new, it’s likely we will see more customers adopting this purchase method as behaviour changes and LLMs become more commonplace.”

Initially the app will only generate quotes for Aviva’s Signature Home Insurance product, which is currently sold directly by the insurer online or via telephone. Aviva said it will monitor customer interactions with the app before considering expanding the model to additional products.
