Sensible Weather, a provider of weather protection for the travel and hospitality sector, has teamed up with TCP Insurance Agency to bring parametric weather cover to the entertainment and media industry.
TCP Insurance Agency, which specialises in commercial entertainment and production insurance and is part of Great American Insurance Group, will now allow film crews, photographers and other creative professionals to attach a Weather Guarantee to their bookings. Should adverse conditions strike during scheduled shoot dates, policyholders are automatically reimbursed in cash without needing to file a claim.
The tie-up represents a significant step in Sensible Weather’s B2B expansion, targeting a market where financial exposure to the elements is considerable. According to the announcement, the US hosts more than 100,000 outdoor shoots annually, representing roughly $50bn in production spend, while over one million production days each year are vulnerable to poor weather. A single lost shoot day can generate substantial unrecoverable costs, from lapsed location permits to crew day rates and prolonged equipment hire. Conventional production insurance generally protects against physical damage or liability but does not compensate for delays caused purely by ordinary weather.
The new product aims to close that gap. Because it is built on parametric technology, payouts are triggered automatically when qualifying weather occurs, removing the documentation and lengthy claims procedures associated with traditional policies. This means crews receive immediate funds to offset weather-related losses and keep projects moving.
Sensible Weather describes itself as the global leader in embedded weather protection. Founded in 2019, the firm enables travel, hospitality and insurance partners to offer customisable cover that reimburses customers when qualifying weather occurs.
