Spintop backs Solace Care's grief-support platform

Solace Care, the Stockholm-based end-of-life platform that helps families manage the practical fallout of a death, has closed a pre-seed round worth €2.1m.

The round was led by Spintop Ventures, with backing from Plug and Play and several senior Nordic insurance figures.

The raise is understood to be the largest pre-seed funding secured by a European end-of-life platform to date. It brings fresh capital to a company that turns a life insurance payout into an ongoing support service for grieving families, rather than a one-off transaction.

Solace Care lets policyholders record their end-of-life wishes, gather important documents and leave instructions in a shared vault while they are still alive, so that responsibility does not fall solely on relatives after a death. Once a loss occurs, the company then walks the family through the administrative process, working through each institution involved alongside human caseworkers.

The company has scaled quickly since launching its first policies in mid-2025, now covering more than 25,000 lives across Sweden, Finland and Norway. Its services are currently offered in Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian, with plans to expand into Denmark and the Netherlands.

Alongside lead investor Spintop Ventures and InsurTech-focused Plug and Play, the round drew personal investment from a number of former insurance executives, including Caroline Farberger, Fredrik Solberg, Emil Lagerstedt-Karlsson, Tomi Yli-Kyyny and Stefan Moritz, together with Further Than Capital, Mattias Miksche, Krim Talia and Wave Ventures.

The new funding will go towards building out Solace Care’s enterprise sales function, strengthening existing partnerships with Nordic carriers and brokers, and supporting entry into the Netherlands and the UK, where local commercial advisors have already been appointed. Additional senior hires are also planned across product and commercial operations.

Solace Care was founded in January 2025 by Korkiakoski and Karakoca, a Finnish-Swedish pair who previously helped build Swedish digital healthcare business Mindler. Korkiakoski, a medical doctor, had earlier founded mental health monitoring app Medified, which he sold to Mindler in 2022, while Karakoca served as the company’s VP of Engineering. Solace Care is headquartered at Founders House in Stockholm and now operates across Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Solace Care CEO and co-founder Valtteri Korkiakoski said, “Today, insurance pays out and then the family is on their own for the next six months. We are redefining personal insurance, so the support is not only a payment. It should help the family keep going.”

Solace Care CTO and co-founder Josef Karakoca said, “A product that does nothing for you until you die is a tough sell to a healthy 35-year-old. Put planning and support around it and the same policy suddenly does something for the family right now, not just after loss. That’s the value we’re building”

Spintop Ventures partner Erik Wenngren said, “Life insurance has been sold on the same promise for decades. Solace Care changes what the product actually delivers to a family, both before and after a loss. That is rare in this industry, and the team has the operating history to execute it.”
