Aviva Global Risk Management Solutions, the risk advisory division of UK insurer Aviva, has added an artificial intelligence-powered motion analysis tool to its client services, aimed at helping employers spot musculoskeletal problems before they develop into workplace injuries.
The offering, built in collaboration with health, safety and ergonomics consultancy Cardinus Risk Management, gives Aviva’s clients access to 3MotionAi, an AI-driven motion analysis platform. The technology was originally created for use in sports performance settings before being adapted into a tool for spotting and managing musculoskeletal risk within workplaces.
Musculoskeletal disorders continue to represent one of the biggest workplace health issues in the UK, it said. Figures from the Health and Safety Executive show that 511,000 workers were affected by work-related musculoskeletal disorders during 2024/25, a total covering both new and ongoing cases, leading to 7.1 million lost working days.
Through the partnership, Aviva’s Risk Management Solutions Consultants are equipped to give businesses clearer insight into how tasks are carried out and where staff might be at risk of strain or injury. The 3MotionAi platform works by assessing video footage of workplace activity, examining elements including posture, movement, repetition, force and duration to flag hazards that standard assessments might miss.
The system is designed to provide real-time, evidence-led findings on workplace tasks, allowing organisations to direct their prevention efforts where they will be most effective.
Gill Milner, Head of Risk Management Solutions, Casualty Classes, at Aviva, said, “Many musculoskeletal risks aren’t immediately obvious. In our pilots we’ve already seen 3Motion identify higher-risk activities that had previously been considered low risk, helping clients take targeted action before injuries occur.
“By delivering real-time, evidence-based insights into workplace activities, the technology helps organisations focus their efforts where they’ll have the greatest impact, supporting safer workplaces, healthier employees and stronger business performance.”
Jon Abbott, Director at Cardinus Risk Management, said, “We’ve been delighted to build on our long-standing relationship with Aviva to harness the power of AI in helping organisations keep their people healthy, safe and in work. By combining Cardinus’ expertise in ergonomics and workplace health with Aviva’s commitment to supporting customers, we’ve developed an intelligent solution that identifies musculoskeletal risks earlier, enabling timely interventions before they become more serious. Ultimately, this is about preventing avoidable injuries, reducing their impact on individuals and organisations, and helping people remain healthy, productive and in work.”
