Zinnia adds whole life chassis to Zahara platform

Zinnia, a life insurance and annuity technology provider, has added a whole life chassis to its Zahara policy administration platform, enabling carriers to bring whole life products to market within roughly three months.

The launch responds to a trend in which final expense and other small face-value products are pushing whole life demand towards middle and lower income households as the population ages, leaving carriers managing policy volumes that many of their existing systems were not built to support.

Whole life remains the largest segment of the individual permanent life market. New annualised premium hit $6.4bn in 2025, a record high, with whole life accounting for 37% of total individual life premium, more than any other product category, Zinnia said.

Policy counts have outpaced premium growth for several consecutive quarters, indicating that carriers are issuing greater numbers of smaller policies on tighter margins that leave little room for manual processing. Older platforms, carrying years of built-up logic for dividends, paid-up additions, policy loans and non-forfeiture provisions, often make it difficult to access policy data quickly or consistently. Zinnia said the industry now needs straight-through processing, underwriting turnaround measured in minutes rather than weeks, and a cost-to-serve structure that does not rise in line with volume.

Zahara functions as a system of record designed to make policy data and calculations readily accessible rather than confined to manual screens and overnight batch processes, with the new chassis exposing this functionality through APIs. Zinnia said this is particularly relevant for carriers pursuing AI and agentic strategies, which rely on rapid, structured access to core policy data at scale, a capability many older platforms lack. Record-level access is intended to let carriers adapt products, distribution relationships and AI initiatives without overhauling their underlying infrastructure.

Carriers can also configure a shared set of product structures, calculations, business rules and workflows around their own product designs, riders and distribution requirements.

The chassis covers product configuration and calculations, new business and policy issuance, policy administration and servicing, digital experiences for customers, agents and operations teams, and integration with enterprise systems including accounting and reporting.

Zinnia CEO George Esposito said, “The growth here is volume, not premium. Hundreds of thousands of small face policies. Carriers do not win that business on systems built for one-off, custom contracts. We built this chassis so a whole life product launches in a quarter and runs at volume on day one.”

Zinnia Chief Product Officer Michael Celi said, “The cost and delay in this industry usually show up in integration and testing, not in product design. We built the whole life chassis so carriers can begin testing from the earliest stages of implementation, not at the end, where most timelines break.”
