Insurance technology provider Mitchell is extending its artificial intelligence-powered vehicle damage assessment technology into the collision repair market, with Crash Champions deploying the solution across more than 650 repair centres in the US.
The move expands access to Mitchell’s Intelligent Estimating platform, which was previously used primarily by major North American motor insurers. The technology is now available to multi-site repair operators and independent collision centres across the US and Canada.
Using photographs of damaged vehicles, the software generates preliminary repair estimates within minutes, helping accelerate the appraisal process and reduce manual workloads for repair teams.
Crash Champions is the first multi-site collision repair operator to introduce the technology across its entire network, covering 38 states and Washington, D.C. The deployment builds on an existing partnership between the companies, which have been working together to improve vehicle claims processes and customer experiences.
Intelligent Estimating is offered as an additional feature within Mitchell Cloud Estimating. It combines AI capabilities with Mitchell’s cloud-based infrastructure, proprietary data and intellectual property to automate the initial stages of vehicle damage assessments.
Once photographs are submitted, the system produces a preliminary repair appraisal that can be reviewed, adjusted and approved by an estimator. This ensures repair professionals retain control over the final assessment while spending less time on routine estimating tasks.
Mitchell said the platform also supports more consistent repair planning across teams by standardising preliminary estimates. This is intended to free up experienced appraisers to concentrate on more complicated repair work.
Part of Enlyte, Mitchell develops technology for insurers, collision repair businesses and vehicle manufacturers. Its software is used by more than 20,000 organisations to support claims management and vehicle repair operations.
Crash Champions was established in 1999 by Matt Ebert, who started the business with a single repair centre in Chicago. It has since become the largest founder-led multi-shop collision repair operator in the US. The company also operates Crash Champions LUXE | EV Certified, a network specialising in luxury and highline electric vehicle repairs.
Crash Champions chief information officer Mark Miller said, “Mitchell Intelligent Estimating helps to improve the customer experience by connecting our Service Advisors to the technology they need to help them build best-in-class estimates and repair plans. After testing the solution and receiving real-world feedback from our team members, we decided to quickly expand its use across our entire network. As vehicle technology continues to innovate, we’re committed to investing in the latest solutions like Mitchell’s, which assist our team members in delivering a consistent, high-quality repair experience to every Crash Champions customer and business partner.”
Mitchell executive vice president and general manager Debbie Day added, “MSOs and independent collision centers are under increasing pressure to improve productivity while delivering a proper and safe repair. Mitchell Intelligent Estimating was designed to address that challenge by automating and optimizing a key step of the repair process. Crash Champions has long been at the forefront of innovation in collision repair, and we are proud to support its continued commitment to advancing the industry through this nationwide deployment.”
