Tide hires industry veteran to drive insurance growth

Tide has appointed Dan McNally as SVP and CEO of Tide Insurance Services, strengthening its push into business protection for small and medium-sized businesses.

The appointment, which is subject to FCA approval, marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to embed insurance into its business management platform.

McNally brings more than 25 years of industry experience across insurer, broker and insurtech roles. He joins from Simply Business, the UK’s largest digital SME insurance intermediary, where he led one of its major growth divisions. His career also includes a decade at RSA Insurance Group, an executive role at the UK’s largest broker network, and a leadership position at insurtech Cytora, which applies data and AI to commercial underwriting.

The hire follows Tide’s recent expansion into the UK business insurance market, integrating connected insurance directly into the Tide app. The service enables members to access tailored coverage with reduced administration, with the first products to launch soon in partnership with Admiral Business.

McNally said Tide has a unique opportunity to reimagine how small firms access protection, “Tide is uniquely positioned to reshape how small businesses manage insurance — combining a deep understanding of members’ needs with the power of technology. Having seen the challenges SMBs face from both insurer and broker perspectives, I’m excited to build on Tide’s momentum and develop smart, connected insurance solutions that make protection simple, relevant, and part of everyday business management.”

Tide says small businesses across its global markets share common challenges: products are fragmented, complex and often poorly aligned to their needs.

With nearly 800,000 members in the UK, over 800,000 in India, and a growing presence in Germany and France, the company sees an opportunity to offer a consistent, digital-first insurance experience across regions.

Oliver Prill, CEO of Tide, said McNally’s appointment is central to that ambition.

“Dan’s appointment marks an important milestone in our mission to make running a business simpler for small business owners around the world. His experience across insurers, brokers and high-growth startups will be instrumental as we scale Tide Insurance and broaden our protection offering. We’re delighted to welcome him to the Tide leadership team.”

Tide Insurance Services will oversee the development of scalable, region-ready insurance products aligned to local regulations but unified under a global protection strategy.
