INSTANDA unveils Clear underwriting platform

INSTANDA has launched an artificial intelligence-supported underwriting and operations platform aimed at helping insurers manage complex cases that require human judgement rather than full automation.

Known as INSTANDA Clear, the system is designed to give insurers greater visibility and control over underwriting and operational processes that often remain fragmented across emails, spreadsheets and multiple systems.

The launch comes as insurers face increasing regulatory scrutiny, rising operational complexity and growing pressure to improve efficiency while maintaining underwriting standards and customer outcomes.

INSTANDA, which provides no-code software that allows insurers to build and launch products more quickly, said the platform complements its existing policy administration system (PAS) by focusing on work that cannot easily be automated.

Referrals, fraud investigations, renewals, complaints and complex policy adjustments can be managed within a single environment, bringing underwriting and operational activities together in one workflow.

Embedded AI is used to reduce administrative workloads, including through an email management capability that can automatically generate tasks from incoming correspondence and route them into appropriate workflows. Underwriting decisions remain under human control.

Insurers can configure workflows around their own operating models while maintaining audit trails, ownership records, service-level agreements and escalation processes.

Completed work can be written back into policy administration, claims and customer management systems, creating a record of decisions and actions taken throughout the process.

The system is also designed to support collaboration between insurers and external parties, including brokers, specialists, coverholders and reinsurers, reducing reliance on email chains and disconnected systems.

Tim Hardcastle, chief executive and co-founder of INSTANDA, said, “The insurance market has invested heavily in digitising distribution and policy administration, but much of the most complex underwriting and operational work has been left behind; still fragmented across emails, spreadsheets and rigid systems that surface information without truly supporting how decisions are made.

“INSTANDA Clear was designed to change that. It represents a natural evolution of the INSTANDA platform, extending beyond product creation and policy administration to deliver a single execution layer for underwriting and operations.

“This is more than a traditional underwriting workbench, it is a next-generation execution layer that puts business owners in control of how work is actually delivered. Teams can shape workflows around how they actually work, adapt them dynamically as cases evolve, and bring their wider ecosystem into governed, auditable execution where humans remain at the centre and technology supports how work actually gets done.”

Kevin Gaut, chief technology officer at INSTANDA, said, “Insurance underwriting is fundamentally human work. While automation can handle predictable processes, complex underwriting cases still rely on expertise, judgement and collaboration across multiple teams and systems.

“INSTANDA Clear has been built to bring structure, visibility and governance to that work without removing the flexibility underwriters need. By giving insurers a governed execution layer across underwriting and operations, we are helping teams reduce friction, improve accountability and move complex cases forward faster, while maintaining full control and auditability throughout the process.”

The release forms part of INSTANDA’s wider push into artificial intelligence, following the introduction of its Journey AI initiative in 2025 and the launch of INSTANDA MAX earlier this year.

INSTANDA Clear is intended to provide a single environment for managing underwriting and operational workflows that require human oversight alongside automated policy administration processes.
