Admiral finalises Flock deal to expand telematics capability

Admiral Group has completed its acquisition of connected fleet insurance provider Flock, bringing the InsurTech's AI-powered telematics platform into the insurer's commercial motor business.

Admiral Group has completed its acquisition of connected fleet insurance provider Flock, bringing the InsurTech’s AI-powered telematics platform into the insurer’s commercial motor business.

The deal, first announced earlier this year, combines Admiral’s scale in the UK motor market with Flock’s technology-driven approach to underwriting commercial fleets, according to InsurTech Eye.

Founded in 2017, Flock uses telematics, connected vehicle technology and artificial intelligence to assess risk based on real-world driving behaviour. The company provides insurance products for commercial fleets, taxis and haulage operators, using driving data to inform pricing and risk management.

The acquisition will enable Admiral to expand its presence in commercial motor insurance while offering fleet operators access to more data-driven insurance products.

Flock’s platform is trained on hundreds of millions of miles of driving data and is designed to help fleet operators improve safety performance through ongoing monitoring and risk insights.

Since the transaction was announced, Flock has expanded further into the UK haulage market and launched a dedicated proposition for the sector. The company said it has onboarded 20 customers to the product since entering the market.

The acquisition also broadens access to Flock’s taxi insurance offering, with eligibility extended to smaller operators.

Ed Leon Klinger, chief executive of Flock, said,”Our mission has always been to make the world quantifiably safer. Being part of Admiral means we can pursue that across a much bigger share of the UK motor market. Combining Flock’s AI-powered platform with Admiral’s scale and expertise is something we have been hugely looking forward to. I couldn’t think of a better home for what we’ve built.”

The acquisition reflects growing interest across the insurance sector in telematics-based underwriting, as insurers increasingly use real-time data and artificial intelligence to improve risk selection and pricing accuracy.

For Admiral, which insures millions of motorists across the UK, the deal strengthens its position in the commercial motor market and expands its access to telematics-driven insurance capabilities.
