Corgi Insurance, an AI-focused insurer targeting high-growth companies, has named James Kullman its new head of underwriting for North America, bringing senior commercial insurance experience from Chubb to support the development of its technology-led underwriting model.
Kullman has spent almost 15 years in commercial insurance, working across risk evaluation, portfolio oversight, product development and underwriting strategy. Before joining Corgi, he was Pacific North region underwriting manager at Chubb, responsible for its small and lower middle-market business across North America. His previous roles also include positions at CNA Insurance, The Hartford and Liberty Mutual.
Earlier in his career, Kullman held underwriting positions at CNA Insurance, The Hartford and Liberty Mutual, covering construction risks, middle-market customers and property and casualty insurance.
In his new role, he will lead Corgi’s commercial underwriting operations across North America, focusing on the use of AI to improve risk selection, develop underwriting guidelines, strengthen portfolio management and support regulatory compliance. The company aims to use AI-supported workflows to make commercial insurance more efficient and accessible while maintaining underwriting standards.
Corgi is building a full-stack insurance platform that combines proprietary underwriting technology, internally managed claims handling and its own insurance infrastructure. The model is designed to streamline the insurance process for businesses by bringing technology and underwriting capabilities together within a single operation.
The appointment highlights Corgi’s focus on bringing experienced insurance professionals into an AI-led operating model as it expands its commercial offering. Its technology is also intended to reshape how insurers, brokers and policyholders interact throughout the insurance lifecycle.
Corgi head of underwriting for North America James Kullman said, “Commercial insurance has relied on many of the same processes for decades. AI gives us an opportunity to rethink how underwriting works, from how we evaluate risk to how quickly we can deliver a quote.”
He added, “I’m excited to bring my experience in traditional underwriting to a team that is building new technology and infrastructure for the industry.”
