MetLife begins search for its second accelerator program

MetLife is accepting applications for its second MetLife Digital Accelerator powered by Techstars, a 13-week membership program.

The aim of the program is to identify and mentor global startups which are developing ‘transformational capabilities and potentially industry-disrupting technologies’ for the insurance sector.

Members of the cohort will access the network of both MetLife and Techstars and will culminate in a demo day where they will present to MetLife, potential investors, local entrepreneurs and the media.

The maiden cohort was comprised of 10 startups and finished up last October. MetLife is currently chasing pilots with nine of these companies, five of which, are already live.

For the second cohort, MetLife is looking for companies which building solutions helping freelancers or the sharing/gig economy, products which are changing the deliverance of employee benefits and experiences which support the financial, emotional or physical health of customers.

It is also looking to find startups designing new methods to underwrite and manage risk.

Companies picked for this cohort will be accepted into MetLife’s Global Technology Campus in North Carolina.

MetLife’s chief digital officer Greg Baxter said, “MetLife’s digital-transformation strategy is focused on innovating internally while also looking across industries to gain critical external perspectives. Digital Accelerator is an important part of our innovation ecosystem. Our goal is to have first-mover advantage on capabilities that are strategically important both to MetLife and its customers.”
