Root Insurance to improve claims for the auto insurance through new partnership and pilot with Owlcam.
The deal will utilize Owlcam’s video security and safety system to provide accurate information of an incident.
When a crash or break-in is detected in a vehicle with Owlcam, a video clip will instantly be sent to the driver’s smartphone. The Owlcam app will enable drivers to review the footage captured and see what is happening in real-time.
This video will also be shared with Root as well as police that arrive on the scene. Additionally, the platform has a 911 Assist, a live operator emergency call response service.
Initially, the pilot will only be available to a limited number of Root customers and the feedback could lead to a broader partnership with the companies.
Root chief corporate development and strategy officer Kumi Walker said, “At Root, we’re dedicated to promoting driver safety. Owlcam is a leader in in-car video, and we know that video can help drivers protect their vehicle 24/7 and simplify the process of filing claims. We are looking forward to growing this partnership over time.”
Earlier in the month, Root partnered with telematics data exchange Verisk Data Exchange. The deal enables Root to access insurance-ready driving data from consenting consumers to improve its scoring model.
The InsurTech recently closed Series E round on $350m, a deal which valued the business at $3.65bn.
