InsurTech Air Doctor has netted $7.8m in its Series A funding round

Travel insurers might be having a difficult time recently, but that has not prevented travel InsurTech startup Air Doctor from announcing the successful close of its Series A round.

While many insurers are facing more travel insurance claims because of the coronavirus pandemic, Air Doctor has raised $7.8m in a Series A round.

The company helps connect travellers with a network of? local doctors, which travellers can access via insurers. This enables the insurers to lower their costs and to offer new services to both credit card companies and mobile operators.

?Air Doctor was born out of the founding team own travelling experiences, out of that terrible feeling you get when you fall ill in a foreign country and dont know who to turn to or how to get the fast response you need,Jenny Cohen Derfler, CEO and co-founder of Air Doctor, told TechCrunch.

The AXA-backed venture builder Kamet Ventures led the round. The Phoenix Insurance Company participated as well.

The news comes as some InsurTech industry experts suggest that the global COVID-19 outbreak could provide many opportunities for InsurTech startups.
