Just Auto Insurance, which recently closed a $5.7m funding round, has formed a partnership with car manufacturer Smartcar.
The agreement will see Just Auto offer prepaid insurance to Smartcar drivers in Arizona. It will leverage the Smartcar API to improve customer convenience, lower underwriting costs and reduce premium leakage, it claims.
Just Auto offers prepaid liability car insurance through a mobile app, with charges based on the mileage driven and driving behaviour. The system works by customers having a a minimum of $30 in their insurance account and top it up whenever needed. After every journey, a cost is deducted from their balance to cover insurance costs for that journey.
Customers can try to reduce their per-mile rate every 30 days by improving their driving habits.
By leveraging Smartcar’s mileage verification API, the Just Auto solution will better be able to underwrite drivers. Customers can connect their vehicles to the Just mobile app, sharing their odometer reading.
Just Auto co-founder, CTO and COO Murray Macdonald said, “Our partnership with Smartcar further emphasizes Just Auto Insurance’s thought leadership and technical superiority in the auto insurance market.
“Smartcar’s modern and well-documented SDKs and APIs were a perfect match for our customer-focused mobile app and best-in-class scoring engine. With this partnership, we continue to provide new and innovative ways to make auto insurance fairer and more affordable for everyone.”
Earlier in the month, Just closed a $5.7m funding round from ManchesterStory, Crosscut Ventures and Plug and Play.
