Insurance company SWICA turned to Scanbot SDK in a bid to provide its customers with smooth digital processes for transferring recovery documents within its mySWICA app.

SWICA has positioned itself as one of Switzerland’s leading providers of health and accident insurance. The company serves both private customers and companies.

In fact, it is the only Swiss healthcare organisation to offer an integral service chain that covers all the needs of its policyholders: from private and occupational healthcare to general medical care and support for ill and injured patients.

Digital functions within the mobile apps are central to SWICA’s comprehensive offering and so are evaluated intensively.

In order to process recovery documents, SWICA was looking for a tool with high-quality scanning capabilities and the ability to deliver a seamless user experience. The tool the company had previously been using was proving to be unstable, causing frequent crashes and frustration among customers. This had further knock-on effects, causing back-end delays and app ratings that reflected dissatisfied customers.

The solution

Scanbot SDK launched its Document Scanner SDK in 2017 to enable insurance companies to add document scanning capabilities to their mobile apps

The tool allowed SWICA to create a streamlined process for submitting recovery documents, ensuring a high user satisfaction.

With the SDK tools, Scanbot SDK said that optimal scanning results are guaranteed. This is thanks to automatic cropping, rotation, perspective correction and quality-enhancing image filters. What’s more, the solutions is quick and easy to integrate into both native and cross-platform projects.

According to Max Stratmann, chief revenue officer at Scanbot SDK, most insureds need to submit documents to their insurance to get reimbursed. Usually, this involves a lot of paperwork, including invoices, receipts, sick notes, and other claim-related papers. Document submission is generally tedious – even if policyholders can submit their receipts and invoices via email, there are usually several steps involved.

“The Scanbot Document Scanner SDK helps insurance companies create a faster, smoother claims experience,” he said, “By integrating the Scanbot Document Scanner SDK into their insurance applications, they enable app users to scan and submit any document quickly, easily, and in high quality.”

A smooth digital workflow

By integrating the Scanbot Document Scanner SDK, the SWICA healthcare organisation drastically reduced the time spent on administrative and back-office tasks. Customer satisfaction among mySWICA users also increased due to the ease of use and the smooth digital workflow.

Although the process for submitting documents remain unchanged following the integration with Scanbot SDK, policyholders now benefit from a more simple userface, reliable scanning and a stable app.

According to Scanbot SDK, even the less tech-savvy customers can be guided into the perfect scanning position using the app. With features such as automatic and manual triggering of the camera and editing the scanned PDF’s providing an easy user experience.

Stratmann said, “The Scanbot SDK helps insurers improve their customer experience in two ways: It makes submitting documents much easier for their customers, and they can drastically shorten the time from submission to reimbursement through improved automatic processing.”

Further, this also benefits employees. The Scanbot SDK enables faster and more simple backend processing, requiring fewer manual corrections.

Alessandra Schudel, digital services specialist, product owners mySWICA, at SWICA, said, “With the Scanbot SDK, SWICA has found a partner for reliable document capture in its digital customer portal. It is an ideal and easy solution to scan and submit recovery documents online within seconds.”

Responding to multichannel demands

In the last four years, Stratmann said that Scanbot SDK has seen a jump in demand for its mobile scanning solutions as consumers increasingly desire a multichannel experience.

The Scanbot SDK has a variety of use cases in the insurance industry. Stratmann said that clients use it for claims management, onboarding, check scanning, and more.

“They demand the ability to access everything when and from where they want, and that includes their insurance. In response, insurers are making massive efforts to offer their customers a sophisticated claims experience,” he said.

Even beyond the insurance industry, Stratmann said that the Scanbot SDK accelerates processes in various sectors. It can allow retail customers to self-checkout on their smartphones, identify patients by scanning their wristbands, and digitise freight documents on the road.

“Scanbot SDK has customers in transportation & logistics, insurance, retail, healthcare, tax & accounting, manufacturing, and many more industries,” Stratmann added, “At Scanbot SDK, we ultimately want to put the power of computer vision and machine learning into the hands of everyone.”
