FINEOS has partnered with Osara Health to enhance the care experience for individuals dealing with cancer.

The firm will integrate additional services for cancer patients and caregivers into insurance carriers’ offerings, using the FINEOS Platform for group, voluntary, individual, and absence insurance.

FINEOS and Osara Health anticipate that their partnership will lead to increased utilization of voluntary critical illness products and supplemental insurance offerings, like short-term disability (STD), by leveraging the automation capabilities of FINEOS Claims.

Their collaboration aims to reduce the gap between diagnosis and receiving support by three months, allowing individuals dealing with cancer to return to work more quickly and achieve better health outcomes, all while avoiding unnecessary financial stress. These services will be offered both by insurers as part of their product packages and directly by employers when applicable.

Osara Health’s Cancer Coach initiative has already shown promising results, improving overall return-to-work rates by 73% and reducing the average time to return to work by 16.5 weeks in an Australian study. This successful program is set to expand into the U.S. market in the coming months. It has also demonstrated positive impacts on patients, including pain relief, reduced fatigue, improved emotional well-being, enhanced mental health, and an overall boost in the quality of life.

Participation in Osara Health’s programme is based on physician diagnosis codes linked to cancer and critical illness coverage, making it a tailored and digital experience, aligning with individual needs. The program extends its support to caregivers as well, helping them maintain employment and productivity.

Chuck Johnston, FINEOS chief marketing officer said, “I can tell any number of stories about people who didn’t realise they had certain supplemental insurance coverages when they needed it. Our alliance with Osara Health will make sure that doesn’t happen, providing this support for someone with a cancer diagnosis right away. This fits squarely within our FINEOS purpose to help our customers care for the people they serve using superior insurance technology.”

Tim Atkins, COO and co-founder of Osara Health, said that the partnership signifies the collaboration between two experts in their fields coming together to facilitate the shared goal of faster care access for members at time of claim.

He said, “We are experts in providing virtual care and eliciting behavior change in the cancer field. This partnership and integration will ultimately deliver a better experience for individuals dealing with cancer and their caregivers,” he said. “At Osara Health, we recognize that patients who actively engage in their health care tend to achieve superior outcomes. Consequently, we endeavored to develop a solution that empowers individuals to proactively participate in their care journey. With the growth of our insurer customer base, we also acknowledged the need to address the challenge of promptly enrolling eligible members in programs while simultaneously streamlining the administrative process. Many of our insurer partners have conveyed that integrations like this one will contribute to a more streamlined administrative experience for their claims teams.”
