Markel strengthens war and terrorism team with new senior underwriter

Markel, the insurance arm of Markel Group Inc., has announced bolstered its war and terrorism team through the appointment of a new senior underwriter.

The global speciality insurer has added Tim Woodhouse to its ranks to support its capabilities in navigating the complex and ever-evolving risks associated with war, terrorism, and political violence.

Woodhouse will be based at Markel’s London office and report to Ed Winter, Director of Terrorism. His role will be pivotal in fortifying Markel’s position in this challenging landscape.

Woodhouse has over two decades of experience in the insurance industry, notably as Divisional Director of Terrorism and Political Violence at Howden, and as Managing Director of Political Violence at Dual Corporate Risks. His leadership positions at Novae Group and StarStone Insurance further underscore his seasoned background within the sector.

The company prides itself on a people-first approach, prioritizing deep relationships with colleagues, brokers, and clients to deliver intelligent solutions for complex risk management needs. Markel’s dedication to innovation and client-centric solutions underscores its reputation as a leader in the insurance sector.

Ed Winter, Director of Terrorism at Markel said, “I’m delighted to welcome Tim to our War and Terrorism team at such a critical moment for the sector which has experienced amplified volatility with worldwide events. To address this and further strengthen our political violence coverage, Tim’s wealth of experience and immense sector knowledge will be an undoubted asset. His reputation of building advanced solutions will be central to our clients and team in the region.”
