His career includes 15 years as an underwriter, advancing to senior positions at Thomas Miller Specialty and Navigators Insurance Company.

Vessel Protect, under Pen Underwriting UK, focuses on delivering exceptional marine insurance services.
The company’s core offerings include war and kidnap & ransom risk coverage. Recently, Vessel Protect has enhanced its conflict zone coverage, increasing war risk limits to as much as $250m per vessel and cargo war coverage limits to $100m.
Chris Goddard, Vessel Protect chief executive and Pen’s co-managing director, said, “James will be a fantastic asset to our fast-growing business with his broad range of marine experience and diverse skill set, as we look to continue our strong growth trajectory while collaborating effectively with and supporting Pen’s wider marine specialisms.
“Our entire proposition is based on delivering exceptional service to brokers and their clients who are navigating dynamic situations and extremely challenging environments every day.
“James’ breadth of industry connections and the ‘client lens’ he brings will be invaluable in ensuring this remains first-class as the business expands and looks to diversify – as will his track record of partnership working and delivering all-round great service himself.”
“We very much look forward to welcoming James into Vessel Protect and the wider Pen family.”
Beyond its focus on war and kidnap & ransom risks, Pen’s marine practice also encompasses ports & terminals, marine trades, brown water hull, marine professionals, and logistics providers.
