MAPFRE RE, the global reinsurance arm of insurance group MAPFRE, has appointed Fernando Utrilla Agüero as deputy CFO and José López González as assistant general manager of MAPFRE Group Business.
Both will report directly to CEO Miguel Rosa, with the appointments effective from 1 July.
The company, headquartered in Madrid, specialises in providing reinsurance solutions worldwide. It operates as a key subsidiary of MAPFRE, one of the largest insurance groups in the world with a significant presence across Europe and Latin America.
As part of a wider restructuring initiative that began in February 2025, the new appointments are designed to support MAPFRE RE’s long-term growth strategy. The changes are intended to bolster the firm’s business development, commercial relationship management, and operational efficiency. The structural update earlier this year also saw Javier San Basilio become general manager.
Fernando Utrilla Agüero, previously assistant general manager of MAPFRE Group Business at MAPFRE RE, steps into the deputy CFO role. He joined MAPFRE RE in 1994 and holds degrees in business administration and insurance sciences from the Pontifical University of Salamanca. Over his three-decade career, he has held numerous leadership positions within the company.
José López González, the new assistant general manager of MAPFRE Group Business, previously served as underwriting manager for MAPFRE Group Retrocessions. He has a degree in economics from the University of Alcalá de Henares and has been with MAPFRE RE since 2008, where he has led several strategic initiatives in retrocession.
Additionally, José Manuel Inchausti will join the company’s board on 6 September as director and chairman of MAPFRE RE, replacing Esteban Tejera, who is stepping down upon reaching the statutory retirement age for board members.
MAPFRE RE CEO Miguel Rosa said, “These changes are part of our broader transformation plan and are aimed at enhancing our leadership team to ensure continued business growth and stronger client relationships.”
