Nexus Underwriting, a global specialty managing general agent and part of the Brown & Brown group, has appointed Eamonn Long as chief underwriting officer for its Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) division.

The firm, which launched its ART business line in December 2024, has brought Long on board to help scale and enhance its capabilities in offering bespoke structured insurance solutions, according to InsurTech Insights.

His role will involve close collaboration with capacity providers and producing brokers to drive complex but efficient transactions for clients.

Nexus Underwriting specialises in providing niche insurance solutions and underwriting expertise through a broad network of coverholders and capacity providers. The firm operates across a range of sectors and geographies, offering both traditional and alternative risk solutions.

Eamonn Long joins Nexus from SCOR, where he led the London Market Solutions segment within its Alternative Solutions unit. In his new position at Nexus, he will be focused on developing multi-year structured (re)insurance deals within property, liability, and multi-line insurance.

With nearly 18 years of experience in the financial services and insurance sectors, Long brings a strong pedigree in ART. He spent seven years at Allianz as managing director in ART across both London and New York. His career began in derivatives trading at Barclays and Nomura. Long also holds a PhD in mathematics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA).

Nexus’s ART unit is led by Christof Bentele, president of Nexus Specialty Casualty. The company says the ART offering is tailored for clients requiring customised solutions that go beyond traditional insurance products.

Nexus Specialty Casualty president Christof Bentele said, “I am extremely pleased to welcome Eamonn to the business, and proud to see that Nexus was able to attract leading talent in this sector. While Nexus was already able to respond to most structures requested by customers, Eamonn will elevate our capabilities to the next level. We aim to create maximum capital efficiency that goes far beyond conventional insurance structures. I’m confident Nexus will deliver even greater value with Eamonn in this key role.”

Commenting on his appointment, Long said, “I’m excited to join Nexus at such a dynamic time in its ART growth journey. The team has already shown impressive momentum in delivering innovative, customer-focused solutions. With a strong network of capacity partners and a forward-thinking leadership team, Nexus is uniquely positioned to address some of the most complex challenges faced by our customers. I’m proud to be part of that mission.”
