Cytora has launched a new agentic AI-powered tool, Unified Risk Reasoning, which marks a major step forward in the full automation of risk workflows for insurance professionals.
This new technology brings reasoning and active decision-making into the digital underwriting process, automating the validation, refinement and finalisation of risk data before underwriting decisions are made.
Traditionally, underwriters, brokers and reinsurers have had to manually compare and review multiple data inputs from submissions and external sources to finalise risk decisions. With Unified Risk Reasoning, Cytora introduces a reasoning engine powered by Chain of Thought, allowing the platform to process this information as a human would, resulting in faster and more cost-efficient decision-making.
By integrating this new functionality into its existing digital risk processing platform, Cytora aims to unlock true straight-through processing. The company said the system will allow insurance teams to significantly reduce manual workloads, accelerate decision times, and improve accuracy across the risk workflow.
Unified Risk Reasoning follows the recent launch of Cytora’s ‘Concierge’ tool, designed to allow underwriters to digitise and process various intake requests automatically, including renewals, endorsements and claims.
Cytora vice president of product Sam Lewis said, “Unified Risk Reasoning is a major breakthrough. It cracks one of the biggest challenges in the true automation of risk workflows – finding, choosing and finalizing the ultimate data required to give a complete picture of the risk. This has always required the hard work of a seasoned professional. Now, by leveraging the very latest capabilities of AI, we have developed a system that accurately executes this expertise. As a result, insurers, brokers and reinsurers will see massive efficiency gains and cost reductions.”
The new release brings several new capabilities to the Cytora platform. These include multi-source reasoning, allowing schema fields to be filled from configurable combinations of data sources in natural language. The system interprets data holistically—pulling together submission content, external data and web research—offering improved reliability and contextual understanding.
Insurers can also take advantage of a growing library of external data sources, which can be integrated into the platform without requiring technical expertise. This allows Cytora to enrich incomplete or inconsistent data automatically, adding depth and context to each risk profile.
Unified Risk Reasoning also automates web searches previously conducted by underwriters and operations staff, applying relevant findings to complete risk data submissions. In doing so, it reduces time spent on manual research and improves accuracy.
Another feature, automated enrichment chains, enables enriched data from one field to inform the completion of another. This intelligent sequencing makes it possible to build increasingly comprehensive risk profiles through multi-step enrichment processes, driven by the relationships between data types and their sources.
Finally, the system offers transparent, natural-language summaries of its reasoning, enabling underwriters and claims professionals to understand and act on AI-generated decisions with confidence and clarity.
