Clearspeed, a global leader in voice-based risk assessment technology, has partnered with Pinnacol Assurance, Colorado’s top workers’ compensation insurer.
The collaboration aims to improve Pinnacol’s engagement with injured workers, helping them navigate recovery and return to work more effectively, according to InsurTech Insights.
Traditional claims processes often create friction for workers experiencing pain, stress or uncertainty, and the partnership seeks to make these interactions faster, more responsive and more connected.
Clearspeed’s technology uses automated voice-based questionnaires that integrate seamlessly into existing customer journeys. Workers receive prompts via text, email, online portal or call centre to answer short yes/no questions.
Responses are analysed by Clearspeed’s proprietary voice analytics engine, generating real-time insights without collecting personal or medical data. This allows Pinnacol to identify which workers have returned to work, completed treatment or need additional follow-up, streamlining case triage and reducing delays.
Pinnacol Assurance is Colorado’s leading workers’ compensation insurer, providing safety nets for employees injured on the job. By adopting Clearspeed’s solution, Pinnacol has tripled its customer response rate and freed up claim representatives’ time, ensuring more efficient and effective service. Clearspeed has a strong record in property and casualty claims and is expanding into auto, life underwriting and workers’ compensation, helping insurers globally reduce claims handling time by up to 50 per cent while increasing immediate settlements by 40 per cent.
The partnership will expand further following initial successes. Pinnacol plans to implement Clearspeed’s platform in First Notice of Injury processes and structured settlement verification, broadening the scope of automated engagement and improving operational efficiency.
“Behind every claim is a human with a story,” said Quincy Douglass, Vice President of Operations at Pinnacol. “Bringing Clearspeed’s innovation into the process helps us optimise our resources to ensure more workers’ needs are met with speed and confidence. This work builds on Pinnacol’s broader commitment to innovation in service of people, helping Colorado’s workers recover safely and return to meaningful employment.”
“Our partner Pinnacol understands that when people are recovering from an accident, the last thing they need is complexity. Together we have created a process that builds trust and helps workers engage throughout their recovery,” said Alex Martin, CEO of Clearspeed. “This partnership also marks a major milestone for Clearspeed in the US insurance market, as we expand beyond our leadership in property and casualty to support more lines of business and more people in moments that matter.”
