Trupanion, a leading provider of medical insurance for cats and dogs across North America, and Shelters United, a national organisation dedicated to supporting animal welfare groups, have announced a new strategic partnership designed to help more adopted pets remain in their forever homes.
Trupanion provides comprehensive medical insurance for cats and dogs, focusing on protecting pet owners from the high costs of veterinary care associated with injuries and illnesses.
Under the new partnership, eligible members of Shelters United can enrol in Trupanion’s Shelter & Rescue Support Program. As part of this initiative, qualifying puppies and kittens in applicable states receive an exclusive Adoption Day Offer, which includes 30 days of full, comprehensive pet insurance coverage at no up-front cost.
Beyond the initial coverage, Trupanion’s Shelter & Rescue Program is free to join and carries no long-term obligation. The onboarding process is designed to be fast and straightforward, supported by a dedicated team to help shelters implement the programme with minimal operational burden.
Trupanion president and CEO Margi Tooth said, “For 25 years, we’ve served the pet community and seen firsthand how a single, unexpected veterinary bill can derail a loving new adoption. With nearly a quarter of a million pets being returned to shelters each year, the need for a solution couldn’t be clearer.
“This partnership offers that solution. Together with Shelter’s United, we’re providing the vital, proactive support needed to protect newly adopted pets and keep families together.”
Shelters United chief operating officer Tali Thomas said, “At Shelters United, our mission is to help animal welfare organizations strengthen their operations, reduce costs, and ultimately save more lives.
“Trupanion’s program directly supports that mission — empowering shelters to prevent returns and build sustainable revenue streams, all while ensuring adopters have immediate access to care.”
