Generali launches Core Tech software factory

Italian global insurance group Generali has launched Generali Core Tech, a new Group software factory designed to accelerate technological transformation under its “Lifetime Partner 27: Driving Excellence” strategy.

The initiative aims to build scalable, shared and innovative platforms that support business growth while delivering greater value to customers and partners across markets, according to FF News.

Generali Core Tech will oversee the management and continued development of “Insurance in a Box” (IIAB), a shared core insurance platform spanning both life and property & casualty operations.

The IIAB platform is already live in Spain and Switzerland and is currently being extended to Portugal, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia as part of a wider roll-out programme.

Since its launch, the platform has enhanced technological agility and generated economies of scale and scope across the Group’s insurance business, with the initial project perimeter covering approximately 15m policies.

Operating as a centre of excellence, the new software factory will assemble a team of around 150 specialists who will adopt advanced development methodologies supported by GenAI-powered tools.

Close collaboration with local business units will ensure alignment with market-specific requirements while maintaining a consistent Group-wide technology framework.

The factory will leverage the platform of RGI, a leading insurance software provider in Italy and across Europe.

Group Chief Operating Officer David Cis said: “We are excited to launch Generali Core Tech as a further example of our focus on group synergies and technological transformation as part of the ‘Lifetime Partner 27: Driving Excellence’ plan. Generali Core Tech, together with RGI, will continue to evolve the ‘Insurance in a Box’ platform shared across multiple business units. This will allow us to strengthen our leadership in key skills development, and support local teams in new systems development, and strengthen the use of AI/GEN AI in radically changing software development processes.”

This move forms part of Generali’s broader commitment to invest between €1.2 billion and €1.3bn in AI and technology under its current strategic plan to enhance operational efficiency, technical excellence and customer experience.
