Liberty Mutual has been testing a ChatGPT integration that allows users to request personalised auto insurance quote estimates directly within the AI chat interface.
The pilot signals growing insurer interest in conversational AI as a potential new channel for insurance distribution and customer acquisition.
Screenshots of the experience showed users interacting with a Liberty Mutual-powered tool inside ChatGPT to request auto insurance quotes, review vehicle information and add drivers during the quoting process.
The integration displayed estimated monthly premiums alongside vehicle summaries and driver details before redirecting users to Liberty Mutual’s website to continue the purchase journey.
According to onboarding prompts shown in the test environment, the feature was designed to provide “fast, personalized auto insurance quote estimates” using limited customer information entered during the conversation.
While quote estimates were generated inside ChatGPT, Liberty Mutual retained policy purchases, issuance, customer servicing and claims handling within its own platforms.
The pilot also included disclosures explaining that information shared during chats could be passed to Liberty Mutual, affiliated entities and service providers in order to generate insurance quote estimates.
The feature appears to have since been removed, suggesting the integration remains in testing or is undergoing further development ahead of any wider rollout.
The experiment reflects a broader trend across insurance, with carriers increasingly exploring how AI assistants and conversational interfaces could reshape digital distribution, quoting and servicing experiences.
Insurers and comparison platforms have been accelerating investments in embedded insurance and AI-powered customer engagement tools as consumers increasingly interact with financial services through conversational platforms.
