Federato, the AI-native platform for the full insurance policy lifecycle, has launched Federato Claims, an end-to-end claims management system built on the same technology foundation as its underwriting, policy administration and billing tools.
Federato Claims is designed to give carriers real-time visibility into the stage of the policy lifecycle they have traditionally understood least well. The system captures coverage decisions, reserve movements and adjuster reasoning as structured data while a claim remains open, then channels that information back into underwriting, pricing and product development rather than waiting until after a case is closed.
This is possible because the new offering runs on the same federated context graph as the rest of Federato’s platform, meaning claims data stays linked to the wider business and context is retained across every handoff.
Claims handling can account for as much as 80% of an insurer’s overall costs and has an outsized effect on loss ratio and margin, yet it remains an area where carriers often lack insight into their own decision-making.
Rising claim severity, unpredictable catastrophe events, and growing litigation and social inflation are pushing loss costs beyond what many insurers had projected, with claims frequently the first place new loss trends appear.
Federato argues that legacy claims systems were designed simply to log outcomes, without linking them to the underlying risk and underwriting context, and that even newer AI add-ons that summarise files or draft correspondence fail to expose the reasoning or patterns that would let insurers act sooner.
Federato Claims aims to close that gap by surfacing inconsistencies in coverage decisions, recurring disputes tied to particular policy clauses, and clusters of reserve overrides across a book of business, giving leaders the chance to intervene before issues affect the loss ratio.
In practice, this could mean a product team rewriting problematic policy wording before more contracts go out with it, underwriters tightening appetite in a segment showing early signs of severity pressure, or pricing teams adjusting rates at renewal when reserves are consistently running above estimates.
Federato Claims is available immediately, either as an addition to the existing Federato platform for current customers or as a standalone option for carriers not already using the company’s other products.
Federato co-founder and chief technology officer William Steenbergen said, “Claims is the one place in the policy lifecycle where you find out if your underwriting was right.
“In a world where AI agents are accelerating underwriting decisions, it is critical to systematically capture the feedback loop between claims and underwriting. Every other legacy system treats that discovery as the end of the file. We built Federato Claims to treat it as the start of the next decision: the reserve you adjust, the appetite you tighten, the policy form you fix before the next renewal.”
