Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK), a specialist insurance provider renowned for its expertise in marine and specialty insurance, has announced the appointment of Alexandros Ampatzis as the new head of marine for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
The move, which becomes effective from 1 November 2024, will see Ampatzis report to TMK’s regional underwriting director for APAC, Jamie Tang, according to InsurTech Insights.
TMK, based in Singapore, provides tailored insurance solutions across various sectors, including marine, property, and specialty lines, with a focus on delivering strategic insurance products and risk management support for complex markets.
The company’s APAC marine division serves a wide geographic area, covering markets from Australia to the Middle East, reflecting TMK’s commitment to growth and regional expansion.
Ampatzis, a highly experienced professional in the marine insurance sector, brings over 20 years of expertise, particularly within global and APAC markets.
Before joining TMK, he held the position of marine manager for Starr Insurance in Southeast Asia and served as deputy head of marine cargo underwriting for AXA in Singapore, further solidifying his credentials within the marine insurance field.
His role at TMK will focus on strengthening the company’s presence across key APAC markets and supporting the strategic growth of the marine division.
Ampatzis joins a recently bolstered team, with TMK also hiring Stephanie Hong as marine underwriter for APAC.
This strategic focus on expanding the team demonstrates TMK’s dedication to enhancing its capabilities and footprint within the region, aligning with its broader organisational goals of growth and specialisation in the marine sector.
TMK’s regional managing director for APAC, Pavlos Spyropoulos, underscored the significance of the appointment, noting, “Alexandros’ appointment marks a significant milestone for our APAC marine team.
