Bamboo Insurance, a California-based InsurTech focused on simplifying property insurance, has launched a new fire prevention initiative in partnership with Whisker Labs.
The initiative involves providing eligible policyholders with the Ting fire prevention sensor and service at no cost. This move reflects the company’s continued focus on safeguarding families, homes, and pets through advanced technology.
The decision to roll out the Ting sensor stems from Bamboo Insurance’s commitment to improving household safety while proactively reducing risks associated with electrical fires.
The InsurTech aims to deepen customer trust and satisfaction by offering practical tools that go beyond traditional coverage.
Bamboo Insurance, known for its modern and flexible property insurance solutions, leverages technology to deliver personalised, transparent, and efficient insurance experiences.
The firm has built a reputation for simplifying the complexities of property insurance and is increasingly adopting preventative technologies as part of its risk management approach.
The newly introduced Ting sensor, developed by Whisker Labs, is a plug-in device designed to detect and alert homeowners to hidden electrical hazards that could lead to fires.
Once plugged in, Ting continuously monitors a home’s electrical system and provides early warnings. If a hazard is found, Ting walks users through the repair process step-by-step. The service also includes real-time alerts for power outages and assistance with preventing frozen pipes.
At least 5,000 Bamboo Insurance policyholders will receive the Ting sensor and service for free in 2025. The offer includes three years of fire prevention monitoring, access to the Ting mobile app, and up to $1,000 in repair credit for hazards identified by the system. The initiative is not available for tenant-occupied properties or policies with a Difference in Conditions endorsement.
Ting is already a proven solution in the market, currently protecting more than 1 million homes. According to Whisker Labs, the technology has prevented four out of five potential electrical fires and helped over 18,000 families avoid serious incidents. The adoption by Bamboo Insurance aligns with an industry trend where insurers are increasingly integrating smart technology to minimise claims and improve safety outcomes.
“Providing peace of mind is at the heart of everything we do,” Bamboo Insurance CEO John Chu said. “By offering Ting fire prevention at no cost to our policyholders, we’re taking proactive steps to help prevent home fires before they start. It’s not only a wise business decision, but more importantly, it is an investment the reinforces our commitment to customer safety.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with Bamboo Insurance to bring Ting to even more homes,” Whisker Labs Co-Founder and CEO Bob Marshall said. “Our mission is clear: to proactively reduce the risk of home fires and deliver safety alerts that provide real value to homeowners. This partnership not only helps keep families safe but also strengthens the relationship between customers, their insurance providers, and agents by offering a preventative, technology-driven solution.”
