Athena Cyber unveils new supply chain shield

Rokstone, the international specialty (re)insurance MGA, has expanded its cyber offering through its Athena Cyber Division with the launch of a new customer and supplier supply chain disruption extension.

The extension is designed to strengthen overall supply chain security by covering losses that stem from cyberattacks hitting either a policyholder’s suppliers or its customers, addressing a growing area of exposure as businesses become ever more interlinked.

Supported by $10m of A-rated Lloyd’s capacity, the product represents a significant shift for a sector that has traditionally lagged in tackling supply chain-related cyber risk. It differs from standard contingent business interruption policies in that it triggers when a cyberattack on an important supplier stops a client from trading, or when an incident hits a major customer and leaves that client unable to sell its goods or services.

Protecting global supply chains has become an increasingly urgent priority. According to research cited by the company, 61% of organisations have suffered a supply chain-related breach, and close to a third of those firms went on to face operational setbacks, financial losses and regulatory penalties. High-profile events, including the recent cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover, underline how exposed supply chains can be. Rokstone frames this as a systemic risk that calls for specialised underwriting knowledge and a data-led approach, noting that the new extension is one of just two such products currently available in the market, built specifically to handle the complex cyber threats posed by today’s AI-driven, interconnected economy.

The Athena Cyber Division is headed by Debbie Hobbs and is made up entirely of female underwriters. Established in July 2026, the team was set up as a dedicated underwriting unit combining technical expertise, robust carrier support and a digitally driven service model aimed at SMEs, mid-sized businesses and large corporates navigating a rapidly shifting cyber threat landscape.

Rokstone is among the largest MGAs globally, operating from offices across the UK, Europe, the US, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It specialises in serving international (re)insurance brokers across a wide range of specialty lines, and currently underwrites $1.1bn in gross written premium spanning Property, Power Generation, Marine, Aviation, Cedant-led Facultative, Agriculture, Construction & Engineering, Casualty, Accident & Health, and Financial Lines.

Rokstone Athena President and Head of Cyber Debbie Hobbs said, “We’re out of the starting blocks and already winning the race when it comes to delivering the modern cyber protection businesses need.  Our new extension recognises that cyber events disrupt not only an organisation’s own systems, but also the wider commercial relationships on which they depend.  This is particularly true of SME’s, who are generally less able to limit the impact of third-party incidents. Rockstone Athena is proud to take the lead in addressing this issue and helping businesses worldwide enhance supply chain resilience.”
