Slide Insurance expands into Texas and Rhode Island

Slide Insurance, a Tampa-based specialty property insurer listed on NASDAQ, has started writing new business in Texas and Rhode Island, widening its presence beyond its existing markets.

The InsurTech firm will offer an HO3 homeowners policy to Texas residents, while in Rhode Island it will provide a DP3 dwelling product for qualifying rental and seasonal properties. Both launches give property owners in the two states fresh coverage choices and give independent agents more products to sell.

The move comes after Slide broadened its product range in Florida, South Carolina and California. The company said the expansion forms part of a measured growth and diversification plan focused on regions where its underwriting and catastrophe risk management skills give it an edge.

In Texas, the new homeowners product gives eligible households another option in a market where catastrophe risk and the cost of cover remain key concerns. In Rhode Island, the dwelling product is aimed at landlords and owners of seasonal homes, adding choice at a time when insurers are becoming more selective about the risks they take on, especially along the coast.

Slide said the launches draw on its track record of insuring residential properties exposed to catastrophes and its approach of tailoring products to each market. Expanding both its geographic reach and its product range is intended to further diversify the business and support its long-term growth.

Slide combines technology with insurance expertise to manage risk carefully, add capacity in the markets it serves and give policyholders a reliable, simple experience. It works with a network of over 5,000 independent agents and is among the 25 largest US homeowners insurance groups by direct written premium, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Slide chairman and CEO Bruce Lucas said, “Our entries into Texas and Rhode Island are fully aligned with our long-term diversified growth strategy to expand into attractive new markets.

“Texas represents one of the largest homeowners insurance markets in the United States, while Rhode Island establishes a foothold for further expansion across the Northeast. Our underwriting expertise, technology and financial strength position us to grow with discipline while bringing additional choice and capacity to the communities we serve.”
