Applied Risk Capital (ARC), part of Amwins, has introduced a Portfolio Credit insurance programme designed to protect lenders and investors against non-payment across diversified credit portfolios, broadening its focus beyond individual leveraged finance deals.
The programme covers a range of lending exposures, including corporate debt, sponsor-backed financing and asset-based lending. It also extends to fund financing, bank risk transfer transactions and structured debt, with protection designed to sit above the first-loss layer.
ARC is targeting banks looking to manage credit risk and regulatory capital, asset managers seeking financing solutions for investment funds, and insurers wanting access to rated credit exposures. The programme offers institutions another way to manage portfolio risk through non-payment insurance.
Policies are written on paper rated A+ by S&P and A1 by Moody’s, with cover of up to $100m per transaction. The programme has an expected life in the mid-single-digit years, with a longer legal final tenor. Coverage attaches to debt tranches ranking above the equity or first-loss position.
The programme is available across North America, the UK, Western Europe and selected other developed markets.
ARC specialises in credit insurance for leveraged finance, helping financial institutions and investors manage default risk and support capital deployment and loan syndications. The Portfolio Credit launch extends its underwriting approach to institutions seeking protection across broader pools of credit exposure.
ARC founder and CEO Andrew Shapiro said, “Since 2020, we’ve built one of the leading non-payment insurance platforms in leveraged finance. Portfolio Credit is a natural extension of that underwriting discipline. It lets us bring the same rigor to pools of risk for banks, asset managers and insurers looking for tailored, capital-efficient solutions.”
