Zego partners with Drover to offer insurance to car hire users

Zego has partnered with car-subscription platform Drover to insurer its private hire vehicle user base.

The deal will see Zego integrate flexible insurance policies within the Drover sign-up process so private hire drivers are automatically insured when taking out a subscription on a vehicle. This will ensure drivers never have to seek out insurance and lowers the chance drivers will be working without insurance.

This insurance deal will mean vehicles are only insured from the time they are on the road, keeping prices low. Adding and removing cars to the policy works through an API integration and removes admin burdens. Zego can supply users with real-time quotes.

Zego CEO and co-founder Sten Saar said, “We’re seeing a major shift from ownership to usership in the world of transport and Drover has taken advantage of this movement to create a unique business model, which has huge potential to change the way that we use cars. Like us, Drover’s offering is built on flexibility. This is why we work so well together and why we’re hoping to collaborate further as Drover expands to new territories.”

The InsurTech signed a similar deal with Uber car rental platform Splend, earlier in the year. Zego offers pay-per-mile insurance to Splend and its fleet of cars, as well as driver behaviour analysis through black boxes in cars.

Founded in 2016, Zego offers flexible insurance for the gig economy, providing self-employed and private hire drivers with accessible coverage. The company recently closed its Series B round on $42m, to support growth into more European countries.
