Petplan hopes to reinvent pet insurance through deal with The Dodo

Petplan hopes to reinvent pet insurance through a new partnership with animal media brand The Dodo.

The deal will see the companies take on the name Fetch by the Dodo.

This joint venture will include a new, one-stop mobile app which will provide pet owners with quick access to their insurance policies, a pet community and personalised pet health and wellness information.

Fetch by the Dodo will launch to Petplan’s 250,000 existing members and reach out to Dodo’s audience, which spans 100 million Americans.

The Dodo president YuJung Kim said, “The Dodo is beloved across every social media platform and continues to expand and diversify its consumer touchpoints from Netflix, to children’s books and podcasts, so this is a huge next step in our brand’s growth.

“We are excited to partner with Petplan to extend The Dodo’s voice, mobile content creation and marketing expertise to reimagine what pet insurance looks like for today’s consumer.”

Ahead of this deal, Petplan has been investing into its technology to improve the claims processing on its platform. It is also in the process of building an analytics service which leverages AI and machine learning to predict a pet’s health trajectory and ways to improve wellness.

The FinTech received an investment last year from private equity giant Warburg Pincus.

Petplan North America president and CEO Paul Guyardo said, “This partnership joins our superior coverage, service, and technology with the reach, engagement and storytelling brilliance of The Dodo.

“Together we’ll create a world of wellness benefits for pets, and put it right in the hands of their adoring parents.”
