Mosaic Insurance, a global specialty insurer, has announced a significant restructuring of roles within its underwriting and operational teams.

This move is aimed at driving growth and efficiency in its agency business. Key appointments include Liam Jones as the new agency CEO, Lisa Fontanetta as chief operating officer, and Krishnan Ethirajan as chief digital & AI officer.

The restructuring is effective immediately and aims to enhance operational efficiency and accelerate Mosaic’s strategic expansion.

Mosaic Co-CEO Mitch Blaser commented, “This is an exciting evolution for Mosaic that enhances our operational efficiency and accelerates strategic expansion. These advancements benefit all our stakeholders and help us expand distribution and product innovation, while capitalising on discerning, data-led risk selection.”

Mosaic Insurance, established in February 2021, is known for underwriting across product lines with high technical barriers to entry, including transactional liability, cyber, political risk, political violence, financial institutions, professional liability, and environmental liability.

The company has positioned itself as a global agency, underpinned by strategic trade-capital partnerships and an innovative model that matches its Lloyd’s syndicate capacity with carrier partners seeking regional expertise in specialty lines.

“These advancements benefit all our stakeholders and help us expand distribution and product innovation, while capitalizing on discerning, data-led risk selection,” said Co-CEO Mark Wheeler. “Notably, these updates will support the strong allegiances we are building with brokers and agency partners to source profitable underwriting opportunities and bring innovative solutions to the market.”

Below is a breakdown of the swathe of new appointments:

Liam Jones, now the agency CEO, will oversee Mosaic’s strategic vision, growth, profitability, and operational excellence in the agency business.

Lisa Fontanetta, as the COO, will manage overall operational strategy, efficiency, and automation.

Krishnan Ethirajan, in his role as chief digital & AI officer, will lead the technology, data, and AI strategy, along with managing external delivery partner relationships.

Other notable appointments include Charlie Mackay as chief underwriting officer, international, and Anna Jay as syndicate 1609 active underwriter, subject to Lloyd’s and regulatory approval.

Anna Jay will manage the overall portfolio structure and risk selection, with strategic oversight of all lines of business.

David White, as managing director of product & portfolio optimisation, will focus on underwriting portfolio development, pricing, and governance, as well as product innovation.

Grant Hopkins will head FP&A and strategic finance, guiding the company’s financial strategy and ensuring effective financial planning. Heather Oliver will take on the newly created role of head of corporate affairs, responsible for business development strategy, investor and board relations, and broker marketing.

Claire Eeles, Mosaic’s chief people officer, highlighted the importance of the company’s culture and team in its strategic vision. “Our colleagues and culture are central to Mosaic’s strategic vision as we build our position as a leading underwriting agency in the marketplace. We’re promoting our people and aligning them with our growth as a firm, and we’re proud to have been able to leverage the strengths of our existing team to make this happen.”
