Carbon Underwriting (Carbon), an independent managing general underwriter and manager of Lloyd’s syndicates, has announced the appointment of Julie Gallagher as its new head of syndicate management, effective immediately.
Carbon specialises in underwriting and managing Lloyd’s syndicates, notably CBN 4747 and the newly launched CBN 5757, which has received approval in principle to begin underwriting in January 2025.
The company combines innovative technology and underwriting expertise to drive its insurance offerings.
Gallagher joins Carbon from Asta Capital Limited, where she held the position of head of client management. In her new role, she will oversee the performance and management of Carbon’s syndicates, including Syndicate 5757.
This new syndicate, set to begin underwriting in 2025, is part of Carbon’s expansion strategy in the specialty insurance market. By 2025, Carbon will manage a combined gross written premium (GWP) of £400m through Syndicates 4747 and 5757.
Gallagher brings a wealth of experience in syndicate management and performance, which will play a key role as Carbon continues to grow. Her background in managing underwriting performance and fostering strong relationships in the insurance sector aligns with Carbon’s ambitious goals.
The appointment further strengthens Carbon’s leadership team at a crucial time as the company launches its second syndicate. The move highlights Carbon’s commitment to innovation, particularly through its proprietary ecosystem, Graphene, which is reshaping how it operates within the industry.
Carbon founder and CEO Nick Tye commented, “We are really delighted to welcome Julie Gallagher to our growing team. Her extensive expertise in syndicate management will be invaluable as we continue to expand our footprint in the international specialty market. The approval in principle for the launch of our second Syndicate – Syndicate 5757 from January 2025 – is a major milestone for us, and Julie’s appointment reinforces our commitment to building a world-class team. Our technology-first approach, embodied in our proprietary ecosystem Graphene, is transforming the way we operate, and we are confident that with Julie on board, we will continue to drive innovation and deliver exceptional underwriting results.”
Julie Gallagher, Head of Syndicate Management, added, “I am excited to join Carbon at such a pivotal moment in its development. Syndicate management and fostering strong syndicate relationships are critical to driving sustainable growth and ensuring long-term success. Carbon’s commitment to innovation, particularly through the Graphene platform, sets it apart in the industry. I am eager to contribute to this dynamic environment and help shape the future of Carbon’s syndicates, especially as we embark on the journey with Syndicate 5757.”
