Vertafore launches AI agent to streamline MGA submissions

Vertafore, a Denver-based insurance technology provider, has launched an AI submission processing agent for managing general agents (MGAs), designed to reduce manual intake processes before underwriting decisions are made.

Vertafore provides technology solutions for insurance agencies, MGAs and carriers, supporting areas including distribution, compliance and workflow management.

The Velocity AI Submission Processing Agent is built on the company’s Velocity AI Platform and integrates into MGA workflows to analyse unstructured submissions, including emails, PDFs, spreadsheets and supporting documents. It extracts key information and converts it into structured data for underwriting review.

Submission intake remains a labour-intensive stage for many MGAs, with teams manually reviewing documents, entering data and requesting missing information before risk assessment can begin. Vertafore said the agent is designed to automate these early-stage processes.

The tool can also assess whether submissions are complete, identify gaps and generate follow-up requests. Vertafore said early users have reported accuracy of 87%, although the company did not provide detail on how the figure was measured.

The launch reflects a broader trend of insurers and intermediaries testing AI tools within underwriting workflows. While the long-term impact of these technologies remains to be seen, submission intake has become a key area of focus due to its repetitive, document-heavy nature.

XPT Specialty executive vice president of workers’ compensation Dan Rieden said, “Historically, submissions have required standardisation through rigid templates, which does not reflect the way business is actually received. The new Vertafore AI capabilities enable us to process submissions in any format, without additional configuration or dependencies.”

Vertafore general manager of MGA and Wholesale Emily McGinn commented, “Every minute underwriters spend gathering and organising information is a minute they’re not evaluating risk and moving submissions forward. The Submission Processing Agent helps teams move to decisions faster while handling more business with more consistency and accuracy.”

McGinn added, “We’re putting AI to work where it matters most for MGAs: removing friction from the underwriting process so teams can focus on the expertise and judgment that create real value.”
