Accelerant's latest filings reveal scope of Nest insurance plans

Accelerant, an insurance platform that combines capacity, underwriting and technology, has submitted trademark applications that indicate it could be developing a new offering called “Nest”.

According to Coverager, the first applications filed last year covered the names “Accelerant Nest” and a stylised “N” logo. The proposed trademark covers a wide range of activities, including insurance lead generation, agent referrals, data analysis, insurance and reinsurance brokerage and administration, reciprocal exchange services and underwriting across different lines of business.

A subsequent application for “Nest Insurance”, filed on 14 August, adds a technology element to the proposed offering. The filing includes software-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service, as well as artificial intelligence tools covering insurance products, managing general agents, reinsurance, underwriting, claims, risk and associated data.

Accelerant Holdings operates by bringing together insurance capacity, underwriting capabilities and technology for specialty insurance businesses. It works with managing general agents and other insurance operators, providing the infrastructure they need to access capacity, manage risk and grow their operations.

The breadth of the applications suggests Nest could eventually span several areas of insurance, including distribution, underwriting, reciprocal exchange services and technology. However, the filings alone do not confirm how these elements would be brought together or when any offering could launch.
