Insureon, a digital agency for small business insurance and part of HUB International, has partnered with LIO Insurance to expand digital access to specialty cover for small businesses with harder-to-place risks.
The partnership gives Insureon access to LIO’s specialty commercial property and casualty underwriting capabilities, with the first phase focused on special event coverage.
The companies plan to expand the offering into additional specialty lines, giving Insureon’s licensed producers access to more products for businesses whose risks may fall outside standard commercial insurance policies.
LIO combines specialist underwriting expertise with a digital platform that uses AI-assisted workflows to streamline submissions and generate bindable quotes within minutes. Human underwriters remain responsible for assessing the risk and making final underwriting decisions.
The technology is designed to reduce complexity in the commercial insurance process while maintaining expert oversight. For Insureon, the integration adds another digital route for placing specialist risks through its online insurance platform.
LIO’s offering spans hundreds of specialty classes, including special events, amateur sports, health and wellness providers, nonprofit and social service organisations, community associations and professional liability.
Insureon allows small and medium-sized businesses to compare quotes, purchase policies and manage their cover online. The platform is licensed across all 50 US states and serves businesses across a range of industries.
Insureon president Jeff Kroeger said, “Insureon is focused on making it easier for small business owners to find and purchase the coverage they need, including businesses with more specialized risks. LIO’s specialty underwriting expertise and digital capabilities align well with the experience we want to provide our customers. This partnership gives us another strong solution for helping small businesses find the right coverage.”
LIO Insurance president and chief revenue officer Tim Maguire said, “We built LIO on the belief that technology should amplify expert underwriting judgment, not replace it. Insureon shares our focus on making commercial insurance simpler and more accessible. This partnership extends the reach of our specialty expertise and technology to more small businesses.”
The partnership highlights how AI-assisted underwriting and digital distribution are being combined to improve access to specialist commercial insurance, particularly for small businesses with risks that can be more difficult to place through conventional products.
