Ebix takes COI platform beyond insurance compliance

Ebix has expanded its insurance technology offering with two new capabilities that help construction businesses assess subcontractors’ financial strength and monitor insurance compliance through a connected platform.

The additions, Financial Lens and Integration Hub, extend the company’s certificate of insurance (COI) management solution beyond policy verification, giving contractors access to financial assessment tools and integrations with their existing business software.

Financial Lens allows contractors to examine a subcontractor’s financial position as part of the qualification process. It analyses documents such as financial statements and tax returns to identify potential indicators of financial distress, drawing on technology already used by banks and insurance providers.

Businesses can configure the assessment process to suit their own requirements, adjusting the ratios, weightings and thresholds applied to measures including liquidity, leverage and backlog. The system also maintains an audit trail of risk scores, exceptions, overrides and reviewer decisions.

Integration Hub addresses the challenge of keeping insurance compliance information consistent across different business systems. It transfers documents, compliance updates and alerts about outstanding requirements from Ebix COI into project management, procurement and finance applications.

By connecting these systems, Ebix aims to reduce repetitive administrative work and help construction businesses make more informed decisions about subcontractor onboarding and project approvals.

The new capabilities reflect the limitations of relying on insurance documentation alone when assessing third-party risk. Although a subcontractor may hold the required coverage, financial difficulties could still threaten its ability to deliver a project. Combining financial assessments with insurance compliance data can help contractors identify these risks earlier.

Ebix’s existing COI solution supports the monitoring of insurance coverage against contractual obligations, including identifying deficiencies and tracking changes in compliance as policies are renewed or project requirements evolve.

The company processes more than 10 million insurance documents each year for almost 400 active clients. Its COI services also include AI-assisted contract analysis and reviews of insurance policies and endorsements to identify restrictions on coverage. Clients can manage these processes themselves or outsource tasks such as document verification, deficiency resolution, renewal management and ongoing monitoring.

The additions sit within Ebix Risk, which also provides risk management information systems, workers’ compensation electronic data interchange and exposure analytics. Across the wider group, Ebix operates in insurance, FinTech and healthcare, alongside payments, foreign exchange, travel and education services. It has operations in 12 countries and serves customers in more than 40 markets.

Ebix Technologies CEO Gagan Sethi said, “Financial Lens and Integration Hub are important additions to Ebix COI because they take the platform beyond traditional insurance compliance into broader financial and vendor risk management. This allows us to solve more of the risk challenges our clients face and opens a much larger market for Ebix across construction and other industries.”

Ebix Risk chief technology officer Robert Rodriguez added, “Effective subcontractor risk management requires more than verifying insurance coverage. It requires understanding financial stability and ensuring that critical risk information informs operational decisions. Financial Lens adds deeper financial intelligence to the qualification process, while Integration Hub connects compliance information to the systems where work gets done, giving organizations a more complete view of risk and the ability to act before potential exposures escalate.”
