Federato brings AI insurance platform to APAC and Japan

Federato, an AI-native InsurTech platform covering the full insurance policy lifecycle, has announced its expansion into the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region, opening its first office in Sydney and naming a former Guidewire executive to spearhead the push.

Roland Slee has been appointed regional vice president for Asia Pacific and Japan, with Federato’s initial commercial focus targeting carriers and managing general agents (MGAs) writing commercial lines in Australia and New Zealand. The company intends to extend its reach to Singapore, Japan and Korea in subsequent phases.

Slee arrives with substantial regional pedigree. He spent four years heading up Guidewire’s business across Asia Pacific and Japan, before which he held sales leadership positions at Oracle in the region for close to two decades. He also steered Bravura Solutions’ Sonata platform from 1% to 26% of global revenues in the region, a period that culminated in a successful ASX listing. Slee is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the University of Technology Sydney, and a Fellow of Engineers Australia. He is based in Sydney.

The company positions the APAC region as a major strategic opportunity, noting that its five priority markets collectively generate hundreds of billions of dollars in gross written premium each year, yet AI adoption across the full policy lifecycle remains limited.

Federato describes itself as the only AI-native platform spanning the complete policy lifecycle. Rather than layering AI onto existing legacy policy administration systems, the platform embeds agentic AI directly into insurer workflows. It has already been validated by Fortune 100 carriers in the United States.

Federato regional vice president, Asia Pacific and Japan Roland Slee said, “Asia Pacific is one of the world’s most significant insurance markets. Combined, the region’s priority markets generate hundreds of billions of dollars in gross written premium annually.

“Insurance executives across Asia Pacific have moved past asking whether AI matters. The carriers and MGAs I’ve spoken with here are sophisticated, well-capitalised, and eager to explore the improved business outcomes Federato’s AI-native platform has delivered in the rest of the world.”

Federato co-founder and CEO Will Ross said: “Federato is fully committed to serving insurers across APAC and Japan, and Roland Slee is key to this effort. As an ex-Guidewire executive who has spent his career in this market, Roland is deeply familiar with what insurers need and the challenges they face trying to make progress with legacy systems.”
