Verisk deepens event response with MIS acquisition

Verisk, a strategic data analytics and technology partner serving the global insurance sector, has completed the purchase of McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), a firm focused on geospatial intelligence and event response.

MIS, which specialises in analysing catastrophe and conflict events across the globe in real time, delivers swift damage evaluations following major loss events, alongside military-grade intelligence and insights that support decision-making when disasters strike.

The deal is expected to strengthen Verisk’s offering in two key areas. Firstly, it will sharpen the speed and resolution of catastrophe event response, spanning everything from alerts issued ahead of an event through to the measurement of exposure and damage once it has passed, equipping insurers, reinsurers, brokers and loss adjusters with actionable intelligence.

Secondly, it builds on Verisk’s position in Strikes, Riots and Civil Commotion (SRCC) and political violence analytics by adding incident-level insight that becomes active while an event is still developing.

MIS works by gathering and interpreting geospatial data from multiple sources, giving (re)insurers precise information to underpin financial and operational choices, property-level damage evaluations, claims resolutions and triage, portfolio exposure estimates and litigation support.

Following the transaction, MIS will be folded into Verisk’s Catastrophe and Risk Solutions unit, joining a wider suite of catastrophe risk modelling tools, global loss indexes, advanced analytics and risk data. Combined with Verisk Maplecroft’s monitoring of external risks spanning operations, supply chains and investments, the enlarged portfolio aims to help clients prepare sooner and act with greater confidence as events unfold.

The unit recently launched Verisk Synergy Studio, a cloud-native platform that brings catastrophe modelling, exposure management and risk analytics together in one environment, allowing more regular model updates and better integration with enterprise risk workflows.

In 2025, the company also bought Verisk Model Exchange, a vendor-neutral catastrophe modelling platform that lets users evaluate multiple independent views of risk on a consistent financial engine. Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions sits within AIR Worldwide Corporation, a wholly owned Verisk Analytics subsidiary.

Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions president Rob Newbold said, “Verisk and MIS share a commitment to helping clients make faster, more confident decisions before, during, and after catastrophic events.

“By bringing MIS’s real-time geospatial intelligence together with Verisk’s catastrophe models, risk analytics, and claims solutions, we can give clients a more complete view of unfolding events so they can assess impacts, prioritize response and support policyholders more effectively.”

MIS founder Forbes McKenzie said, “We’ve worked with Verisk to integrate real-time event data for rapid accumulation analysis, so it felt like a natural fit to join the team, especially as catastrophes grow increasingly disruptive around the world. Together with Verisk’s risk modelling and claims solutions, we can help insurers better serve policyholders during their most challenging moments.”
