Sixfold, the underwriting AI platform used by leading insurers around the world, has launched an AI Underwriter for Life & Health insurance, a governed AI agent built to handle complex Life & Health underwriting work.
The new tool assesses medical and financial evidence, applies a carrier’s own guidelines, and generates a recommendation, a rationale and a next action for each case it reviews. It arrives a few months after Sixfold introduced its AI Underwriter for Property & Casualty in June.
The AI Underwriter is designed to work across several product lines, including life, disability, long-term care and critical illness cover. Life & Health underwriting typically requires teams to work through medical evidence, prescription histories, lab results, driving records, financial details and internal guidelines before reaching a consistent, case-level decision.
Sixfold’s tool is built to read through that material, apply underwriting logic, flag what is most relevant to the outcome and surface impairment-level findings, each linked back to the source documents.
The system has been developed specifically around Life & Health underwriting, drawing on common impairments, evidence patterns, product considerations and rating logic. Carriers, or their reinsurers, can feed in their own manuals so that recommendations reflect their particular guidelines, risk appetite, authority levels and business judgement.
Underwriters retain the ability to question the output, review the reasoning behind it and apply their own judgement before the AI Underwriter combines impairment-level ratings into an overall table rating and recommends whether to rate, refer, decline or postpone a case.
