Corgi Insurance, an AI-native InsurTech carrier focused on high-growth businesses, has launched a dedicated insurance programme covering data centres across their full lifecycle, from construction through to operations and the computing hardware housed inside.
The programme brings together key risks faced by data centre operators under a single offering, rather than requiring businesses to piece together cover across multiple policies and insurers. During construction, Corgi provides builders’ risk cover alongside delay in start-up protection, which responds when an insured loss delays the planned operational launch of a facility.
Once a data centre is operational, the programme covers critical property and infrastructure, including power, cooling and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. It also provides business income cover when an insured event forces a facility to shut down.
A key component of the offering is residual value protection for GPUs, designed to protect some of the most valuable assets housed within modern data centres. The cover is intended to support GPU hardware as a financeable asset, providing protection for the equipment powering AI and high-performance computing workloads.
Corgi is targeting a range of data centre businesses with the programme, including colocation operators, GPU cloud and AI compute providers, enterprise and edge data centres, as well as the developers building new facilities.
The launch comes as data centres become increasingly critical to AI, cloud computing and wider digital infrastructure. Growing demand for computing capacity is creating a broader range of risks for developers and operators, spanning construction, power supply, cooling infrastructure, equipment and business interruption.
The rapid expansion of AI infrastructure is also increasing attention on the physical infrastructure required to support increasingly compute-intensive workloads, including data centre development, GPU availability and rising power and water requirements.
Corgi said its new programme has been designed to address the insurance needs associated with both developing and operating this infrastructure. Founded to serve fast-growing businesses, Corgi combines proprietary underwriting technology with in-house claims handling and insurance infrastructure.
Corgi co-founder Nico Laqua said, “Data centers are becoming some of the most important infrastructure in the world, but the insurance around them hasn’t evolved at the same pace. We’re building insurance around the entire data center, from the moment construction starts to the hardware running inside it.”
